There is a new program in Massachusetts that may help some of you - it is saving our family $534 a month in health insurance expenses!
If you have family health insurance through your employer, and MassHealth (Medicaid program based on disability, not income) as secondary insurance for your child with a disability, this program is for you! The state of Massachusetts wants to encourage you to maintain your primary insurance policy so that MassHealth won't have to foot the entire bill for your child's expensive medical care - and they came up with a program that will pay you back for all/some portion of your portion of your family's p rimary health insurance costs.
We were previously paying almost $600 a month out of pocket for our family's HMO policy, then $140 or so more for our MassHealth policy for Madeline. Now we're getting reimbursed for a big part of the HMO expense, which makes a HUGE difference!
If you want to know more, contact the Massachusetts Division of Medical Assistance at 800-462-1120 ext 5121 and ask about the Health Insurance Premium Payment Plan.
Spread the word - even the social worker at Children's in Boston and our Early Intervention people didn't know about this - and it could make such a difference for so many families!
